If we compare the instructions given to census takers with the categories used in the statistical bulletins of the Norwegian Staistical Bureau (NOS), we find the same use of categories in all instances except for the year 1920. Although finn was not mentioned in the instructions for that year, we find that finn and lapp are lumped together and filled in as finn.4
